Otopharynx sp."auromarginatus margrette" can only be found near Likoma Island and it`s living there in the intermediate zones from rocks to sand. You can keep this species best with other peaceful species and multiple females in a tank with some places to hide and a lot of swimming space. In march 2021 I bought a young trio of this species, one male and two females, they were about 8-10 cm then. From these young fish the male is - in this moment (april 2021) - about 11 cm and the females are about 9 cm. When I released them in my tank the male was rather dark coloured however this disappeared quite quickly and since then he swims just lightly coloured through this tank. Up till now the male is very tolerant against his females, it`s rather the other way around, the females are hunting the male often away. Probably because of this the male is just very slowly starting to get some color. They are also very tolerant against the other inhabitants and they have also been accepted by the other fish in this tank. Initially it seemed that the male had a problem to accept the male of Mylochromis sp."lateristriga makanjila" but in the meantime this behaviour is gone and they accept eachother quite well nowadays. In the lake they are feeding themselves mainly with plankton and with everything they are able to find in the water and the sand, except bestial food. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered however food rich of algae is very important to them like spirulina pellets or flakes, sometimes they also get krill, mysis, shrimp-peas mix and artemia. |
